The new expansion for the classic Quake: &#8220;Dimension of the Machine&#8221; is vibrant, engaging, and filled with more enemies, and what feels like a refreshing colour palette.<\/p>\n<p>Dimension of the Machine is great, and I&#8217;m excited to revisit this chapter in the future. Ending in a slightly improved Chthon final boss fight.<\/p>\n<h1>The Dimension of the Machine Levels<\/h1>\n<p>As is Quake standard; Dimension of the Machine lets Rangers select the sub-episode they&#8217;d like to go after first; similar to the original Quake chapters in the original game.<\/p>\n<p>The Quake Dimension of the Machine levels are broken down as follows, as provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/Dimension_of_the_Machine\">fandom<\/a>\u00a0and give you some idea of the themes in each section:<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Realm_of_the_Machinists\" class=\"mw-headline\">Realm of the Machinists<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGE1M1: The Pain Drain\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE1M1:_The_Pain_Drain\">MGE1M1: The Pain Drain<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE1M2: The Wishing Well\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE1M2:_The_Wishing_Well\">MGE1M2: The Wishing Well<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE1M3: Sandy's Room\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE1M3:_Sandy%27s_Room\">MGE1M3: Sandy&#8217;s Room<\/a>\u00a0(Secret Level)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Quake&#8217;s version of Machinists speaks to the gears and cogs that make up these levels; my first section to approach; you tend to be pushed to a corridor to corridor with <a href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/Ogre\">Ogres<\/a> dominating most open areas.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Realm_of_the_Blacksmiths\" class=\"mw-headline\">Realm of the Blacksmiths<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGE2M1: Acid Sanctuary\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE2M1:_Acid_Sanctuary\">MGE2M1: Acid Sanctuary<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE2M2: Fading Embers\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE2M2:_Fading_Embers\">MGE2M2: Fading Embers<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span id=\"Realm_of_the_Stonemasons\" class=\"mw-headline\">Realm of the Stonemasons<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGE3M1: Down the Waste\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE3M1:_Down_the_Waste\">MGE3M1: Down the Waste<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE3M2: Hell or Dark Water\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE3M2:_Hell_or_Dark_Water\">MGE3M2: Hell or Dark Water<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span id=\"Realm_of_the_Cultists\" class=\"mw-headline\">Realm of the Cultists<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGE4M1: Grave Machine\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE4M1:_Grave_Machine\">MGE4M1: Grave Machine<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE4M2: A Grave Mistake\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE4M2:_A_Grave_Mistake\">MGE4M2: A Grave Mistake<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Like most sub-chapters; Grunts tend to only be around as early fodder; this section focuses on the two parallels between <a href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/Death_Knight\">Death Knights<\/a> and Zombies.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Realm_of_the_Astrologers\" class=\"mw-headline\">Realm of the Astrologers<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGE5M1: Nazard Terminal\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE5M1:_Nazard_Terminal\">MGE5M1: Nazard Terminal<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MGE5M2: Too Deep, Too Greedy\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGE5M2:_Too_Deep,_Too_Greedy\">MGE5M2: Too Deep, Too Greedy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t enjoy this chapter as much as I would have liked; the weird platforming section in the introduction of the Nazard Terminal was a nice visual break from the traditional brown nature of historical Quake maps; but, no, don&#8217;t like platforming, and I&#8217;m never a fan of more <a href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/Scrag\">Scrags<\/a> to fill up the in-between spaces; harassing from the sky is painful for just a shotgun.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Final_Level\" class=\"mw-headline\">Final Level<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MGEND: Chthon's Vengeance\" href=\"https:\/\/quake.fandom.com\/wiki\/MGEND:_Chthon%27s_Vengeance\">MGEND: Chthon&#8217;s Vengeance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes, an improvement on the original Chthon fight; but, not by much. When you get to this final level of the game; you&#8217;re so hyped on new texture juice, Chthon is simply just a big target again; with some side enemy support, but not enough for you to be concerned, even on the higher difficulties.<\/p>\n<h1>Should you Play Quake Dimension of the Machine?<\/h1>\n<p>Should you play this new chapter of the original Quake? Yes! The new chapter gives everything you&#8217;ve always loved about the original game; with more creative use of textures and mapping; bringing a new vibrance to the original brown-scape that we&#8217;ve not too commonly had in the classic Quake series; even with today&#8217;s mods or conversions.<\/p>\n<p>Quake Dimension of the Machine is a must play for any Quake fan, and new comers to the series like I was at the time.
